Google presents a new tool based on augmented reality which perfectly matches the current coronavirus pandemic situation. Indeed, "Sodar" allows you to keep good social distancing when you have to venture out of your home. If the containment is lifted, we will still have to continue to be responsible by respecting distancing gestures such as wearing a mask, and social distancing.
Sodar has the ability to virtually draw a circle of 2m radius around you to keep your distance. This tool is not a mobile application but only available on the web, to use it just go to the dedicated website.
However, it is important to note that this site allows you to use augmented reality only on the latest version of Google Chrome, on Android. It even seems that some Android smartphones are still not compatible. Anyway, everything should soon be back to normal and we know the skills of Google in augmented reality, Sodar promises a fairly precise and efficient tool.
Google has invested heavily in this time of health crisis to make life easier for its users, and Sodar is their latest collection. The Mountain View company notably partnered with Apple for the time to think about a contact tracing application. A few days ago we learned that Switzerland should be the first country to use this API as part of the deployment of an application similar to other application created to stop COVID-19. France has also created an app similar to Google Sodar called StopCovid which could also be launched this weekend, this information passed by the French Government.
